geo - metry: (lit.) "earth - measurement"

In Masonic ritual, it is stated that "geometry and masonry [were] originally synonymous terms."
I believe this is not entirely correct. Geometry, in its original sense, was far more synonymous
with another branch of applied science -- the art and science of surveying.
